The Gray Render is also found in the first Monster Manual, although under a different picture.

Not sure what you mean... Are you referring to the Monster Manual from 3rd Edition? Thomas Baxa's Gray Render does appear in that volume of the MM in 2000 (which is the first time this creature appeared in print). My Gray Render appears in the Monster Manual 2 for 4th Edition in 2009.

I get the feeling that, were I to be standing in this picture, I would only be about as tall as the tip of it's lowest claw on the visible hand. If that.
