This was done for the ArtOrder (www.artorder.blogspot.com) challenge, Mutation Nation. I chose path #1, gene splicing, combining a rhinoceros and a ostrich. This is an additional piece I did for myself that is not eligible for the challenge. Everyone was allowed one submission.
Gene Splicing - Select two disparate critters (a rat and a venus fly trap; a dragonfly and a electric eel; a kangaroo mouse and a grizzly bear), strip out their gene sequence, take 'em into you illicit backroom lab, swirl 'em together in a beaker, and see what you get. The monster you create should be more than a sum of it's parts. In other words, I don't want to see an electric eel with dragonfly wings and head. I want to see a brand new creature that is an actual melding of the two gene sequences, and creates a completely unique and integrated critter. Please create a name for your creation - preferably something tongue-in-cheek like Liger (Lion/Tiger), Electric Fly (Electric Eel/Dragon Fly), etc. and have it in the image.
